Cizderiye (Tzistarakis) Mosque, Athens, Greece

Built in 1759 by the Ottoman governor of Athens, Mustafa Agha, desecrated by the newly independent Greek State after 1830s and used as a ballroom, barracks, prison and a storehouse.

Fethiye Mosque, Athens, Greece

17th Century mosque replaced the one built/converted after the Ottoman conquest in 1450s. After 1824 it's minaret was torn down and used as barracks, a military prison and finally as a military bakery. Recently restored for profane use.

(Church of Saint Nikolas) Kavala GR

Built ca.1530 in the name of the Grand Vizier to Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, converted to a church in 1926 after its minaret was destroyed and a bell tower added.
Chios (Sakız Adası) Mecidiye Mosque

Built during reign of Sultan Abdülmecid (1823-1861), the island's only mosque was recently "restored" and converted to a Byzantine Iconography Museum (b&w 📷 anon, ca.1900)
Halil Bey Mosque (Old Music)
former Ottoman Sanjak of Kavala

Was a 16th Century mosque and madrasa. After it's desecration it was used as a school, concert hall (hence the nickname) and today serves as a "Cultural Center"

One of Greece’s most important Ottoman monuments, it was built in 1817 by Mohamed Ali of Egypt, who was from Kavala himself. Today it is a luxury **HOTEL**
Saatli Mosque, Selanik (Thessaloniki) Greece

An 18th Century Ottoman mosque built by Selim Paşa. It was burned down, together with much of the Turkish and Jewis quarter of Salonika, in August 1917

Selanik (now Thessaloniki, Greece)

Built in 1902 as the last mosque of the Turkish city of Selanik, it was desecrated, minaret torn down and now used as an exhibition hall by the invading Greeks
Alaca İmaret Mosque, Selanik (Thessaloniki)

Built in 1484 by İshak Paşa, Grand Vizier to Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. Named after it's multicolor minaret which was torn down after 1912, it is now used as a public building by the occupation municipality.
Osmaniye Mosque, Sakız (Chios)

Built in 1892 to serve the once-vibrant Muslim community of Chios, which has since been massacred or expelled by the Greeks. "Restored" mosque is not open to visitors or worshippers, only used for exhibitions.

Osman Shah Mosque (Tırhala)

Designed ca.1550 by Ottoman imperial architect Sinan and the only mosque still standing in the city of Trikala out of the at least eight reported by Evliya Çelebi. No longer used for worship as per cultural genocide policies of the greek state.
Ottoman Vezir Mosque (Kandiye)

Built circa 1856 in Heraklion, Ottoman Crete. Converted to a Church dedicated to St. Titus after the the genocide of Cretan Muslims.
Recep Paşa Mosque, Rhodes (Rodos)

Built in 1588 by Grand Vizier Recep Pasha, it somehow survived the destruction of most mosques on the Island by Greeks, and now is in a partially collapsed state
Yeni Cami (New Mosque) Vodina (today Edessa, Greece)

An older mosque restored in late-19th Century, closed to worship after city was ethnically cleansed of Muslims and Macedonians in 1912. Today it is a barn with graffiti covered walls.

Built on top of a former Venetian Catholic monastery, mosque became part of ethnically cleansed greek Crete and converted to an Orthodox church with the addition of a bell tower
Hamza Bey Mosque (Alkazar Cinema) Thessaloniki, occupied Selanik

15th Century Ottoman mosque mamed after the Beylerbeyi of Rumeli and built by order of Hafsa Hatun. Sold to private owners and used as a cinema for decades. Now under a never-ending "restoration"
Faik Paşa Mosque, Narda (Arta)

15th Century mosque by Faik Paşa, a vizier of Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror, who was probably from the area as his tomb is nearby. Destroyed by Greeks after the area was occupied by them in 1881, now awaiting "restoration" 🕌

Like all Muslim cemeteries on the island, this tomb of an Ottoman governor was desecrated by Orthodox Greeks after the genocide of Cretan Muslims. Today it serves as a RESTAURANT

Also known as Yalı or Janissaries' Mosque, built circa 1650. This beautiful sample of islamic art lost its minaret after the genocide of Cretan Muslims and now is used as an exhibition hall

Mid-19th century mosque escaped destruction but lost all function. Served as an archeology museum for many years and is now a cultural center for non-existing greek culture #DiscoverGreece

Part of a complex that includes a Turkish Bath, the partially destroyed mosque built by Sultan Mustafa III. in 1765 is now used as a wedding hall by the small Turkish Muslim population of the island

Built in 1615 in the Turkish quarter of Mytilene, it was left to rot after the island's Turkish population was wiped out. Supposedly a restoration started in 2018 but now suspended.

Oldest mosque in Turkish town of Serres, dated 1385 and Grand Vizier Çandarlı Halil as its benefactor. Coverted to a church during Bulgarian occupation, torn down by Greeks in 1938

Mehmed Bey Mosque, Serez

This late-15th Century mosque is the largest and oldest surviving former mosque of Serres. Suffered extensive damage as the city was cleansed off Muslims, today the building is derelict and unused.

Early-18th century Ottoman school that was destroyed in early-20th century. Located near the Roman Agora, its portal is all that remains standing
