Do you guys revisit a dream world on different nights like it's a persistent world that's there when you're not?
I do. I have disjointed, "one-shot" dreams a lot but there are some persistent worlds I come back to time and time again.
One of these worlds is a forest that has grown up out of the Canton library. The longer I have been away the deeper the forest is. In my dreams now the whole town is a forest, dangerous to others, and I have to help people through it.
People I haven't seen in twenty years.
There's another one where they build spaceships in the big lot beside the Ridgeland library. I spent a lot of time in libraries growing up.
That one's been active a lot lately. There's aliens there with featureless faces, they want to show me their homeworld.
I started on this particular dream world when I was 16 or so and for probably 10 years I was terrified of them, but kept having the dreams, so I started to let them lead me around. Into the spaceship factory. They talk but I don't understand.
After years they showed me their homeworld, which was this big silver ball of liquid metal. I learned to look into it and see what is happening where they are from. They seemed pleased by this. I loved those dreams. I would watch alien cities and nations flow and move.
But in the past few months something has gone wrong.
The ball isn't silver anymore, it's oily and black. The spaceship factory is run down. The aliens talk less. They're not happy. I don't know how to look into their world.
I don't know what is going to happen. Sometimes I never go back to a dream world. Some are just gone. I feel like I'm not finished with this one yet, though.
The reason I was scared of them is that they looked like this but with little grey alien bodies and the blue mottled skin tones of the aliens from They Live.
(I saw this as a teenager)
