There is a myth going about. It is spoken on our news. It is taught in our schools. Liberal free thinking allies and racists alike tout it. It is an image that is much more a mirage of a colorblind hero in the body of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Gather round. #MLK2019 #MLK #MLK90
Let's jump right in with a quote from the "I Have A Dream" speech.

Dear White People,
Dr. King's mind was on a lot more than Black kids and White kids holding hands. Read this part: #MartinLutherKingJr on #PoliceBrutality. How #BlackLivesMatter of him...
Schools don't teach that #MartinLutherKing began the Poor People's Campaign, believed in Americans having a universal guaranteed income, and stood vehemently against the "evils" of capitalism and the Vietnam War. His dream went so exceedingly beyond "content of character".
As a matter of fact, in #MartinLutherKingJr's speech, "The Other America," he had a few words on waiting for White folks' hearts to change.

"Although it may be true that morality can not be legislated, behavior can be regulated." King was not just a dreamer. He was a pragmatist.
Oh, we're not done. Class is still in session. Stay tuned.
'Cause if you're going to celebrate the man, you might as well know who he is. #MLK #MLKDay #MLK2019 #MLK90 #MLKJr #MartinLutherKingJrDay
Now, lovelies, repeat after me:

#MARTINLUTHERKING WAS NOT "COLORBLIND"
#MARTINLUTHERKING WAS NOT "COLORBLIND"
#MARTINLUTHERKING WAS NOT "COLORBLIND"

#MLK LOVED HIS BLACKNESS &OURS. #BlackIsBeautiful was a #King message, too- not just Panthers+others of the Black Liberation Mvmt
#MLK was not playing about this melanin, do you hear me?! #MartinLutherKing was NOT on some colorless we are the world we're all the same game. Nah. My dude preached #BlackIsBeautiful like it was a stump speech - over and over again. "I AM BLACK...AND NOT ASHAMED TO SAY IT!"
Yes, #MartinLutherKing is an inspiration to all. But listen to these speeches- Hate to break it to ya nice White folks, but he really isnt even talking to u. lol He's speaking spec to Black ppl abt Black living & loving our Black selves.

From "What Is Your Life's Blueprint?":
So, I've presented original historical evidence that THE #DrMartinLutherKingJr was not in any way "colorblind". Tell a neighbor. Tell ya kids. Also, I gave you an opportunity to see and hear some rare footage of #MLK speeches. You're welcome, darlings.

Now, let us continue...
Fun Fact: Did you know that White Democrats are generally just as racially tinged as Republicans and have always been? lol Shocking! I know! But true! And #MartinLutherKing had a thing or two to say abt that.
Spoiler Alert: The White Supremacy is in the policies & White inaction.
To refer again to #MLK's speech, "The Other America", White folks of all sociopolitical beliefs bear responsibility for what is and will be of America and its oft-encouraged insufficiently checked anti-Black racism. So much of it lies in the myths Whites tell themselves:
And just as an (important) aside, no matter who sat in #DrKing's literal audience, u'd be hard pressed to find any delivered speech and any writing where #MartinLutherKing doesnt break down the distinct differences in the history and economics of race between Black and White ppl
Colorblind #King was not.

Even when #MLK showed up to champion everyone, he never failed to make clear the disparity even in poverty between Black and White.

From #DrKing's speech delivered on March 18, 1968 to Striking Sanitation Workers:
#King got all up in [White] America's semantics-lovin behind. If u want to magnify the role of Christianity in #MLK's legacy, that is an excellent (&far more apropos than most) point upon which to do it: Like Jesus, he was peace-lovin, yes, but not at the expense of truth-telling
Peace-loving. But not at the expense of truth-telling.
Not a bad take-away, among others. 😏

Hope u enjoyed today's #MLK #thread. Tried to give u all something special, so one last gift: See a bit of the #KingCenter in Atlanta, GA below.

One of King' s biggest criticisms of American dominant society was that they were resistant to doing the real things that helped Black ppl economically overcome, where real measures were needful and deserved.
