PDX: CenturyLink 1 Gig fiber is now just $65/mo. Free modem. Free installation. No taxes/fees — the bill is exactly $65 — no contract and they say "price for life". Sounds too good to be true, right? I switched, and so far it really is extremely good. https://www.centurylink.com/fiber/plans-and-pricing/portland-oregon/
ALSO, there's no data cap — gigabit customers are exempt from their "excessive use policy", so you don't have to worry about overage charges. I can't help but be suspicious that this will all fall apart… but so far so good.
My humble setup:
• (UR) CenturyLink ONT converts fiber to ethernet
• (UL) UniFi Secure Gateway. It replaces the free CenturyLink WiFi router/gateway. The software is very good
• (BR) A PoE switch
• (BL) UniFi Cloud Key lets me manage remotely. Unnecessary, but has a screen 😍
I have two Ethernet ports in the house, so I use two UniFi In-Wall HD access points on either end. They’re small, unobtrusive, very fast, AND have a built in four port hub. And thanks to PoE, no need for separate power. I love them
I’d like to take a moment to say how good the UniFi Controller iOS app is. Extremely good dashboard. Device health is clear, easy to see signal strength. It’s all really clean and well designed.

(I use their Cloud Key to host the controller software, but you could use a Mac.)
The best part for me — a great feature of their $139 Security Gateway I use as a router — these graphs! It’s actually nice and funscinating to know how I’m using my data!

(That peer-to-peer? Me seeding MAME roms! 😜 Nicole’s Instagram and my Twitter usage is neck and neck…)
An update if anyone cares:

• CenturyLink Fiber continues to be incredible. They now call it 940 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps (I wonder why?), but it is fast, solid, no caps, no overage, still too good to be true.

• UniFi hardware continues to perform perfectly.

All is well!
Another small update!

• I had two 8-port UniFi switches, but replaced both of them with a new UniFi Switch Lite 16 POE. It's great, small, runs cooler! Eight ports are POE, eight regular.

• Today my CenturyLink is 924 Mbps down, 931 Mbps, despite Coronaload. GREAT SERVICE.
