can we start a thread of low budget, vegan meals that y’all eat? I swear low income vegans always make something out of nothing.
i’ll start 💫
1. soy sauce ramen, broccoli, white onion, chopped morning star patty
2. tofu, zucchini, apple, mini biscuits & jelly
3. spaghetti, mushrooms, gimme lean sausage, tomato sauce, $1 loaf bread from Walmart
4. rice, beans, red onion, smashed avocado
tips:
- winco: bulk section is extremely nice.
- sprouts: 25% of plant based items often and deals of the week.
- my grocery outlet has morning star/gardein. i get .50-$1.99 plant based milk, 2/.97 daiya cheese, red onion 6/$2.99, 6 mini avocados/$3.99, $1.99 vegan ice cream
vegan on a budget:
- stick to basic ingredients (nuts and seeds, brown rice, quinoa, lentils, oats & dried beans)
- buy in bulk (+ use reusable plastic or jars)
- cut up onions, potatoes, peppers, etc ahead of time for the week
- learn to use tofu, it’s extremely versatile/cheap
vegan on budget cont:
- talk to other vegans via online!! they will give you the best tips!!
- watch YouTube videos/educate yourself
- make grocery list and stick to it price wise (it’s ok to sub for something else as long as it’s similar in price/purpose)
- campus food drives

!!LEARN TO READ FOOD LABELS!!

you’ll save so much $ finding products that are vegan by default instead of looking for things that are certified vegan. here are some tips:

If you’re having a tough time buying CF/vegan products for cheap, I recommend stores like TJ Maxx, Burlington, Ross, Trader Joe’s, etc. My vegan deodorant in stores is around $10 vs $3.99 at TJ Maxx. Same with all my skin and body products.
