The last time my family qualified for registration and 'settled status'
I didn't expect this tweet to get the attention it has, but am glad of it. I hope it makes a few people question the reality of what we are becoming and where we are going. Never again.
It's important to understand the camps didn't happen overnight. The ground was carefully prepared for years. Your lives are poor? It's 'their' fault. Othering. More successful than you? They're alien, a social infestation. objectify/dehumanise. 'The ___ are our misfortune' 1/2
They're not patriots - rack up the Nationalism, make working in working in given professions harder. Separate. Glorify national history in schools, making it clear 'others' are not part of it. Next, 'protective' custody, 'allow' violence to occur. Begin talk of 'relocation'. 2/2
It's a slow, drip, drip, drip until people who were once neighbours, possibly friends become 'less'. You are encouraged to think of them as 'not like you', an 'enemy within'. Bit by bit, you stop thinking about and eventually questioning their fate.
