I few days ago I talked about antisemitism in hip hop. This is it. https://twitter.com/MeekMill/status/1077470230639771649
Jews don’t see this as a compliment. For generations people have tried to say that Jews controlled the economy and used that as a reason to discriminate, oppress, and murder them. Hip hop saying they own everything is reminiscent of that and not a compliment.
And to be tone deaf to that, to their feelings about your words about them, is no different than when white people are tone deaf to what black people (or other people of color) say about racism. Hear people when they share their experiences. Don’t just yell your excuses louder.
And that’s really it! We refuse to understand how what we see as a compliment can be harmful to other people. And it really boils down to listening to other people’s experiences! https://twitter.com/tc_2nd/status/1078294003131518976?s=21
White people think telling black people they’re “articulate” or they’re “not like other blacks” is a compliment. It is not! Same difference! https://twitter.com/thenflchick/status/1078295969920438272?s=21
*whispers* And it says something about black people (black men) that the power to control others is seen as a compliment. *runs*
What hip hop says about Jews is reminiscent of this...the talking points that were used to oppress and murder them.
