I don't fully understand the "Poly Movement." where's the originality? Nothing "Poly" about Reggae music. Nothing "Poly" about faux patois accents. Nothing "Poly" about saying "nigga" a thousand times in a 'rap' song. Where is the "Poly" at in the movement?
I can't fully get into it when it's just Polys doing things that have already been done. What makes it unique and where is Pacific Island culture pushed to the forefront? Are we afraid outsiders won't understand? Are we incapable of teaching them?
the Poly Movement seems to only cover 2 areas, Entertainment and Sports. Poly NFL players, Parri$, Rich n Tone, Dinah and Rock in Entertainment. Otherwise what else? No education?
Pacific Islanders may be small in number, but the culture is VITAL, VIBRANT and deserves to be shared. Yes, appropriation will come, but isn't that already what most Poly artists are doing?
What's my idea of a Poly Movement? Look no further than Aotearoa. They are EONS ahead of the U.S. in all facets of sports and entertainment and pop culture. Where's the disconnect? Polys here in the U.S. piggyback Black arts/movements but still can't bring a Black human home?
Last point, can we do away with the term Poly Movement period and call it the "Pacific Movement?" That's more inclusive yeah? These are just my ranting opinions and I'm open to discussion and having them challenged.
