A “transvestite pass” was somewhat similar to what a “gender recognition certificate” is currently in the U.K.

As it was illegal at the time for people assumed to be men to wear women’s clothing, an people assumed

It also functioned much like a “transition letter” used under the previous GID protocol, so when someone was harassed, they could produce a certificate showing they were legally

“Allowed” to be wearing what they were wearing.

You see, trans people, *as we exist today* absolutely existed during the Nazi Era, and even predated it. How do we know this...

Well, no other than Lili Elbe herself, as she wrote about it in her autobiography “Men into Women (1933).

Elbe talks about the various surgeries she had than changed her life (5 in all, with the last one being a uterine transplant that ultimately killed her because anti-rejection drugs were little more than a pipe dream at the time). The first surgery, supervised by Magnus Hirschfeld

And performed by Dr Kurt Warnekros, happen in 1930 at the Dresden Municipal Women’s clinic.

That surgery was one many trans women still take as a first step to their surgical care (if they so choose or have access), which was an orchidectomy (removal of testes).

Her second and third surgery are somewhat unclear, but from available information appeared to be botched attempts at a penectomy, or removal of the penis.

Her 4th surgery was the implantation of ovaries, of which we have significant evidence for, as she wrote about it
