(we’re currently outside the map, I’m feeling strangely emotional about it)
an incredible journey, gosh
Last night in Red Dead, some of our gang journeyed outta bounds. Here's a collection of my highlights (taken by me, @ianmaclarty and @GhostTownGoldie):
After an immense effort with incredible teamwork, we finally slid through the boundary https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142229806479630336
We were immediately in a less populated landscape with a beautiful view over New Austin
As we moved further out, the textures started to noticeably repeat and change abruptly
Even further out, there were no environment props, just the vast barren landscape
https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142248034249502720
There were areas where the unfinished geometry formed interesting jagged shapes
Eventually we reached this huge seam, where high-res landscape meets with low-res
https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142238167724019712
Approaching the edge, it was possible to see underneath, sometimes there was water, sometimes a vast nothing
We wanted to test the collision but were all outta throwables, so Ian ate some beans https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142236676950855681
We made a pact to jump at dawn (then Goldie was disconnected RIP) https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142251223996780544
The sun gently rose. Ian jumped https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142253516020310016
I jumped https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142255413431115781
In the underworld, we were constantly falling and being pushed back up. We realised we could influence the direction, so met up and headed for the edge of the world https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142259128162590721
The day night cycle was still visible, it was a such bizarre and beautiful space https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142262622491856896
Endless falling happened for about an hour, but then! Suddenly we started swimming?? and we could see the water surface (first person at this point was a terrifying solid black screen with awful drowning sounds) https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142263600741904384
And then we were pushed up to the surface of the water! https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142264260220735488
But of course, we could only swim for so long before our stamina ran out! There was lots of emotional shouting at this point, we were helpless.
RIP to Ian's cowboy, thank you for travelling the underworld with me https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1142265630743134208

Rebirth/spawn.
...
Placed back on the map, opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was this cactus.
~What a perfectly dumb end to our big and emotional journey~

(More snaps of this adventure are on our gang's account @TheGrannies_)
--- Since our first adventure outta bounds, our gang's become pretty obsessed and played a whole bunch! Here are some of our new discoveries from outside the map:
There are places where animals spawn, usually in groups of three or four. They are alive and breathing, and will turn to watch us, but they can't move
https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1143157133086609408
Wild horses, however, are rideable! Finding horses outside the map is the best feeling! Being kicked to death and respawned inside the map is the worst feeling
(Also there was a session where Ian's face was mysteriously blurry the whole time) https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1144254090739949568
We've discovered landmarks like The Arch, The Train Tunnel, The Nick Cave cave, and to the south, a sickeningly vast featureless plain that's impossible to navigate in the fog
There's The Canyons of Mexico (complete with roads!)
The Overlook in furthermost south-west corner of the map
The River's End, where the river comes to an abrupt stop https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1143505835198337032
My very favourite, The Cube
And The Big Seam, which never gets old
https://twitter.com/TheGrannies_/status/1144260333902716928
The geometry continues to form endlessly surprising shapes
And the landscapes remain shockingly huge and breathtakingly beautiful~~
Also today I entered my cowboy into a Red Dead fashion competition lol ☁️💁‍♂️⚡️
