To all the liberals who have confused liberalism with leftism:

It’s not your fault; the capitalists behind the media, behind the super PACs, behind the lobbyists all benefit from you ascribing the values of leftism to liberalism. They have conflated these terms on purpose.
They benefit from the obfuscation of these terms. They want you confused, precisely because the strategies of leftism (like unions, strikes, & riots) are more effective than the strategies of liberalism (like voting for reps, boycotting products, & peaceful protests).
Unionization, general strikes, and riots *hurt* capitalists. Voting in representatives who bend to corporate lobbyists, boycotting individual products or branches of conglomerates, and protesting with a permit are more favorable to capitalists—
and that is why corporations and their shareholders would prefer you protest like a liberal.

That is why they want you to boycott disposable straws while they sell you a reusable straw.

That is why they remind you that Martin Luther King Jr wouldn’t block a highway (he did).
Capitalists are happy for you to think that liberals won our labor rights, won our civil rights, won our disability rights. They point to these movements as paragons of liberal values, when in reality, their gains were accomplished by leftists.
Capitalists would like you to believe that liberalism is the left-most edge of the economic spectrum, precisely because it is the left-most point on the spectrum that *doesn’t threaten their power.*

True leftism threatens the power of capitalists. Liberalism is not leftism.
None of that, of course, means that it’s too late to become a leftist. Chances are, leftism actually correlates with your most deeply held values: Social justice, democracy, freedom, equality. It’s just that you’ve been lied to by people who profit from your confusion.
