I love doing fanart for diverse books.
I haven't had the chance to draw anything in awhile, but I hope to draw more fanart soon, esp for authors and books that deserve it.
Here's a thread of the fanart I've done. (It's also cool to see how I've improved over time!) ✨
May 2017
First fanart I ever did was of Dimple Shah from WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI by Sandhya Menon! Loved this book at the time, imagined Dimple's eyes lighting up and getting expressive with her hands when she talked about her passions. 💛
June 2017
I had just finished reading THE GAUNTLET by Karuna Riazi and loved the Middle-Eastern influences x steampunk x Jumanji vibes. Such a great MG book! Fanart is of the protagonists: Farah, Essie, and Alex!
June 2017
I adored THE BONE WITCH by Rin Chupeco and wanted to draw the protagonist, Tea. Tried a new art-style! Proud of it, but definitely not me. But definitely read this book about angry girls, giant monsters, and necromancy.
July 2017
Y'all know how much I adore NOT YOUR SIDEKICK by C.B. Lee, but in case you don't know: I LOVE NOT YOUR SIDEKICK!! Sci-fi + superheroes + SOFT!
One of the first books where I felt represented, and means so much to me.
Here's Jess and Abby, my fave girls. 💛
Aug 2017
This is one of my fave things I've ever drawn.
It's of Genie Lo from THE EPIC CRUSH OF GENIE LO by F.C. Yee, one of my all time favourite books! About a girl who just wants to get into college but suddenly receives powers and has to fight demons. So much fun! ✨
September 2017
I loved NOT YOUR SIDEKICK and I loved its sequel NOT YOUR VILLAIN by C.B. Lee as well! This is of Bells, a Black trans teen who is one of Jess's best friends and can shapeshift. He's the BEST! Made of sunshine and everything good in the world.
September 2017
QUEENS OF GEEK by Jen Wilde was such a soft and lovely book, and so I absolutely had to draw Charlie Liang, one of the protagonists, Asian, pink-haired, actress, vlog star, and fiercely kind. 💛
December 2017
This is probably one of my bests! I love WANT by Cindy Pon to the moon and back (easily my fave sci-fi read of 2017), so absolutely had to draw my fave, Zhou.
Tbh no idea how I drew this. I peaked here. 😭
December 2017
You ever read a book so good and it inspires you to draw?
Felt that way reading EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir. This is of Laia of Serra; an incredible protagonist who grows and grows and deserves the whole damn world.
May 2017
After a months-long dry spell, reading THE POPPY WAR by R.F. Kuang gave me so many feelings that I had to draw our fave anti-heroine, Rin.
A fantasy based on the Sino-Japanese War. Brutal as heck book, but so so good.
June 2017
I still don't know how to finish this, but one day, I will.
This is of my favourite character from favourite book ever JADE CITY, Kaul Shae, before she [spoiler; guess you have to read the book!!! heheh]. The most reluctant baddest bitch in Janloon. ✨
March 2019
Had this image in my mind whilst reading Tara Sim's DEATH AND THE MAIDEN in the Color Outside the Lines anthology; had to draw it! 😀 https://twitter.com/artfromafriend/status/1104588626212483072
April 2019

Best thing I've drawn, for DESCENDANT OF THE CRANE by Joan He. Hoping I don't peak here and I continue getting better. 🤞 https://twitter.com/artfromafriend/status/1116300693873156103
April 2019

I had a lot of fun drawing Kaul Shae from JADE CITY by Fonda Lee!! This was really challenging and almost gave up like 29840232 times but am glad I pushed through and kept trying. 😭 https://twitter.com/artfromafriend/status/1121406603570204672
August 2019

Took a long break from art because of my injury but it felt so good to draw Miyoung from WICKED FOX. 🦊
Trying to practice how I colour! 💛 https://twitter.com/artfromafriend/status/1166313746601406469?s=19
