Some creators use the excuse of 'there's no homophobia in this world' when asked about lgbt+ but with very few of them is believable. Why? Because they say 'oh, it's normal in our world', even when all you see is straight people. Mains? Straight, ofc. Bg characters? Also straight
You don't actually SEE it being "normal", when you don't even see background couples holding hands, and all the mains are heteronormative, I mean, assume everyone is straight. Very unrealistic if you say in your world homophobia doesn't exist!
What I love about She-ra is that it does an AMAZING job at this, because it's actually BELIEVABLE, you see gay couples everywhere in the background! Even the mains, it's hard to see any of them as straight! There's no heteronormativity!
So many shows/writers use the "homophobia doesn't exist" as an excuse so they don't have to deal with gays or the weight of coming out. (See; jk Rowling, vld) it's lazy, and they don't do it because they care, they just want people talking about them doing less than the minimum
