THREAD: My Diabetes Conference Experience and the Incompetence of Modern Medicine

So I went to a Diabetes Conference to get insight into the medical field, to see where the mindset of medication prescribing originates. I sat through 4 hours of panels

you're welcome.
2) The lobby offered pastries and fruit for breakfast.
The event was free but the trade off was that the conference was backfunded by YOU GUESSED IT:
BIG PHARMA
The lobby was filled with drug reps pushing the latest greatest medications.
I grabbed a couple cards just for kicks.
3) The first 2 hrs of panels discussed managing diabetes with medications but I noticed a theme:

Doctors are fucking terrified of Hypoglycemia.

A reason doctors don't like LCHF diets is because they're concerned with hypoglyco. A LCHF diet is in their view, a death sentence
4) Because Carb restriction simply isn't an option, the strategy now seems to be:

Have patients deliberately induce hyperglycemia with carby food and then take exogenous insulin/meds that increase glucose excretion. Thus balancing out hyper vs hypo with drugs.
5) There was a panel discussing Hyperlipidemia and the current consensus on LDL cholesterol (according to them) is to get LDL EVEN LOWER

"High LDL is bad even with high HDL"
HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT HDL DOESNT HELP, GET ON DRUGS.
6) Most infuriating is the recommendation to get LDL as low as <55
Im calling it now, there will be recommendations to get LDL to zero at this rate.
7) Post discussion, I asked what a diabetic patient's options were if they didn't want to take medications.

The response? "Eat less calories, exercise, try a combination of phentermine and other weight loss drugs"
8) The entire experience has only reinforced my contempt for modern medicine and the pharmaceutical industry.

Doctors can't help you if you're suffering from metabolic syndrome. They cant help you because the option to try anything else simply isn't fathomed
9) It really is a an anomaly that physicians like @KenDBerryMD @DoctorTro @KetoDocCLT @DrAseemMalhotra exist with rampant reinforcing of pro-drug prescribing.

The deck is stacked against the average person. They want you to believe that being stuck on meds is your only option
10) I still choose to be hopeful. The data is out there, we know carb restriction is a key in treatment for metabolic syndrome. Just because the authorities can't or won't acknowledge it doesn't mean we can't help ourselves.
Stay vigilant and keep reading. KCKO
