2) Alt-right and alt-light organizing has two cornerstones-- nationalism and gender politics.

Their nationalism isn't always white nationalism. We see multi-ethnic groups like Patriot Prayer and the Proud Boys organizing on the basis of Islamophobia and male chauvinism.
5) As researcher Matthew Lyons notes in "Insurgent Supremacists":

"Because alt-rightists were explicitly white nationalist, many observers didn’t notice that they also promoted a misogyny so extreme that even many neonazis criticized it."

6) This isn't accidental.

When the alt-light and the alt-right are looking to recruit, they draw in members by appealing to the entitlement of traditional gender roles.

This means they're bringing in abusers by the score.
7) Worth noting-- the left definitely has unaddressed issues with gender-based violence. See the wonderful zine "Accounting for Ourselves" for more on that: https://ia902307.us.archive.org/21/items/AccountingForOurselves/accounting-for-ourselves_screen.pdf

But it's not a point of recruitment, like it is for the alt-light and alt-right.
8) One of the Proud Boys' mottos is "Venerate the housewife," but there's strict and violent consequences for women who step outside those roles.
9) @RoseCityAntifa has been tracking the intimate partner violence histories of Proud Boy and Patriot Prayer members in the Pacific Northwest: https://twitter.com/RoseCityAntifa/status/1047732983854116865
10) And damn, there's a lot of them: https://twitter.com/RoseCityAntifa/status/1047732966523203584
11) Like, really, a LOT a lot of them: https://twitter.com/RoseCityAntifa/status/1047732966523203584
12) Scott Beierle, the misogynist who shot up a yoga studio in Florida yesterday?

He's got a record.

It looks to me like a history of intimate partner violence.
13) The guys I tell you about every single day?

A lot of them do, too.

This is Alan Swinney, a Proud Boy who travels the country attacking protesters: https://twitter.com/AntiFashGordon/status/1055456388800004096
14) He's got a record for strangling a member of his family.
15) This is Trevor Carey, a Boston Free Speech member who runs a YouTube channel dedicated to male supremacy: https://twitter.com/AntiFashGordon/status/1043135860869410816

He also runs Marx Watch, which doxxes and harasses protesters.
16) And yeah, he owns a gun, and has pulled it on counterprotesters: https://twitter.com/AntiFashGordon/status/1043135885380923392
17) Richard Spencer, too: https://twitter.com/AntiFashGordon/status/1043135885380923392
18) Those of us who deal with intimate partner violence have an acronym-- "DARVO."

It describes how abusers deal with being confronted for their actions.

It stands for:

Deny
Attack
Reverse victim and offender
19) And whenever I expose a fascist, guess what happens?

Fashy commenters come crawling out in droves to deny basic material facts.
20) Even conservative, but fash-sympathetic media outlets get in on the game.

And they DARVO hard.

The "sword" they're talking about? It belonged to Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes.
21) That dude you know who has some accusations swirling around him?

But everyone in the scene is still cool with him because he books noise shows or whatever?

Give him six months.

He's all primed to be recruited by fascists.
22) And by not confronting him, you're letting your scene get infiltrated by fash.

Don't do that.

I promise it's not worth getting your band on a shitty noise show.
24) Being cool with your bro because his ex is "crazy"?

That's collaboration, you fucking quisling.

Confronting abusers is anti-fascism.

Supporting survivors is anti-fascism.

Our strength is our community.

So let's all be strong enough to shoulder this burden.
