CREEPIEST THINGS I'VE FOUND IN ABANDONED BUILDINGS: THE THREAD. To be periodically updated. In no particular order.

1) These faceless CPR dummies in an abandoned institution https://www.abandonedamerica.us/forest-haven-developmental-center
2) CPR dummy faces without bodies are pretty nightmarish too
3) Illegibile writing, presumably in blood, on the wall of a solitary cell in an untouched abandoned prison https://www.abandonedamerica.us/steadmoor-prison
4) This abandoned prison had dozens of squatters who watch visitors from the shadows; freshly used drug paraphernalia is littered about the cells. Tragic in retrospect, but very unsettling to experience. http://www.abandonedamerica.us/old-essex-county-prison
5) While exploring a very dark and dilapidated abandoned Elks Lodge by myself, I found a large ballroom at the top. A single shaft of sunlight was coming through the roof on the far end... onto this rotting taxidermied elk head. http://www.abandonedamerica.us/new-castle-elks-lodge
6) Found these Santas in the back of an abandoned theater and they are the stuff of nightmares http://www.abandonedamerica.us/the-westlake-theatre
7) I could do an entire subthread about the eeriest things I've found in prisons because there are just so, so many, especially when it comes to the things scrawled on walls of cells. This one, I think, pretty much takes the prize though. https://www.abandonedamerica.us/abbot-state-penitentiary
8) This legitimately made me jump. The room was so dark I didn't see it at first.
9) HOW COULD I FORGET THIS GUY. HE'S CREEPY AF
10) I feel like this really made the list too. https://twitter.com/abandonedameric/status/1154930898405646336
11) Not one of my best photos, but it's super old. This is a morgue in a children's hospital. While photographing it alone I realized the floor was covered with little glasses, presumably belonging to dead kids. Still makes my skin crawl. https://www.abandonedamerica.us/forest-haven-developmental-center
Here's one that belongs on this list for sure: exploring a flooded mausoleum filled with human remains by yourself. I saw my first skeleton in its natural habitat https://twitter.com/abandonedameric/status/1115422082685390848
13) An abandoned medical research facility that studied disease pathology by infecting animals - disturbing enough without the dozens of dead birds carpeting the ground outside the building.
14) So here's a really creepy thing that happened while photographing Chernobyl. Worth watching with sound.
15) This rabbit is the stuff of nightmares https://twitter.com/abandonedameric/status/1252377247517782016?s=19
