Hey folks.

Using mixed capitalized/uncapitalized letters to mock a point is super ableist and possibly classist.

If you can't ridicule bigotry without resorting to bigotry like that, you need to work on yourself a LOT.

For that to operate as a way of doing ridicule, you have to believe that being illiterate or not super educated (thus, unfamiliar with the conventions of capitalizing letters) == bad/wrong.

You know who this catches?

Folks who are uneducated, folks who have learning disabilities, folks who are cognitively disabled, folks who don't speak/write English or any language with this alphabet.

None of whom are by definition hateful, facile, shallow, unaware, or deserving of such hate.

I'm tired of seeing people like

"i aM sUpErIOr--" -- no, you know what, you're not. You're doing a bigotry in service of whatever your point is.

I get it's hard to notice, I get we're all learning, but please for the sake of something that's important to you, knock it off.

Also, the other group it catches is language learners, many many many of whom are children.

At everyone's peril do you infantilize fascists, folks. They're not cute little kids and they're not untutored in the ways of the world.

But it helps them if you think they are.

I eagerly await all the trolls who are mad about this thread.

You know what, folks, I don't really care if it's from a cartoon that did not originally intend it in that way.

There are many reasons why it doesn't matter; if it bothers you then feel free to unfollow, block, mute as you prefer--I didn't @ you, so this really isn't personal.

You look at the original cartoon meme image, and if you wanna try to tell me it's not punching straight down HARD at cognitively disabled people then instead why not go block me because you have no defensible position and deserve no quarter.

Couple more things

1 "the original" sponge bob included no text, so although the image is Problematic the text is not canon (thanks to someone who told me this)
2 the switch-case text is hard to read
3 it is classist, not "possibly" so. I was thinking through it while I typed.

In conclusion, I am muting this entire thread, so for those of you who HATE that I said this and MUST tell me about it, your activation energy for sharing your feels is now higher.
