The other day I got an email telling me I had received the signal honour of being elected to membership of the "EU Academy of Sciences"...
It did strike as being a little odd that its web domain was something called " http://interpaper.org"> http://interpaper.org " but its old-school graphic design reassured me that it was indeed an august and ancient body... I mean, this is a good as a building with a big neoclassical colonnade, right?
And every year it produces an "annual report" and I am advised to check this out, so I can grasp the full dimensions of its awesome augustness. Here& #39;s the cover page; again keeping it very very real
But then look at the star-studded cast on its board -- ALL Nobel prize winners. Must be awesome right? But who is their fearless leader, Evangelos Ladopoulos, and why have I never heard of him before? Who is this masked man???
So why not look at their annual report, and check out his profound contributions to human understanding -- this "outstanding scientist". So imagine my horror when I read his lead contribution to the Annual Report, only to discover their website has been hacked by a crank...
But then this -- apparently we will soon be riding in aeroplanes moving at speeds in excess of earth& #39;s escape velocity. You wouldn& #39;t want the brakes to fail...
But wait, there& #39;s more -- not just planes faster and hotter than a meteorite screaming through our atmosphere, but in fact this is Nobel worthy work... And surely only a truly august individual would discuss himself so fulsomely in the third person?
But Sir Andre must be working super-hard on Ladopoulos Nobel Prize nomination, since rather than write something new for this review, he just cut-and-paste his Nobel prize lecture for inclusion in this journal
So yeah, nah, on that I think.
