Confused as to where these ideas came from?

Confused why there is systemic prejudice against women?

Quick thread on your favs.

Aristotle: Aristotle believed women were inferior and described them as "deformed males". Page 42 of his work Politics
Charles Darwin in his book “The Decent of Men wrote "males were more evolutionarily advanced than females".
Hegel once said and I quote “Women are capable of education, but they are not made for activities which demand a universal faculty such as the more advanced sciences, philosophy and certain forms of artistic production.”
Jean-Jacques Rousseau is credited with this - “Women must receive the decisions of fathers and husbands like that of the church".
Martin Luther said “The word and works of God is quite clear, that women were made either to be wives or prostitutes.”
“Nature intended women to be our slaves... they are our property”

Napoleon.
Cato argued ““Woman is a violent and uncontrolled animal, and it is useless to let go the reins and then expect her not to kick over the traces. You must keep her on a tight rein.”
Then Confucius is credited with saying

“It is the law of nature that woman should be held under the dominance of man.”
Oh there’s another interesting one by Aristotle.

“A proper wife should be as obedient as a slave.”

I can’t.
I’ll end this thread with one from uncle Plato

“All the pursuits of men are the pursuits of women also, but in all of them a woman is inferior to a man.”
Misogyny has had 100s of years to brew and then settle in our systems. From the home to the board rooms. So many ideas have been repeated in different forms by political, religious, economic & even academic thought leaders.
So yes the work to dismantling it will be painful & uncomfortable. The fight will shake many fundamentals.

So honestly, when people are angry at feminists. I am happy. This fight will be brutal & we are only scratching the surface.

It is not a fight from a place of comfort.
I quickly realized a lot of my reading on history and philosophy was too male. Now my new hobby is finding buried texts written by women who fought back. Because I am sure even then there were women who did.
We’ve been listening to one side for far too long.

Far too long.
