For three years I have wanted to write an article on moral panics. I have collected anecdotes and similarities between today’s moral panic and those of the past - particularly the Satanic Panic of the 80s.

2. We’re told we must “believe the victim” which translates to “believe every accusation.” If you don’t, you’re a rape apologist and hate women. 3. Inflated and misleading statistics are used as evidence of the epidemic. In satanic daycare panic, large percentages of therapists claimed to have ritual abuse patients. 4. Exculpatory evidence is used as evidence of the ACCUSER’S trauma. When children made false claims, it was explained as being traumatized. 5. Memory pseudo-science. Memory/trauma “experts” insist that accusers are telling the truth and that their memory (whether “vivid” or spotty) is evidence of that.
