Here is the thing about @BetoORourke: Democrats in Texas have been excited about lots of candidates in the past only to see them be trounced. Beto is running a fundamentally different and more energizing campaign but he still more likely than not to lose... BUT

...Here is why we in Texas, (including Republicans of the mold of Ragan / Bush) owe it to the country to work our hardest to get @BetoORourke elected: there is no pathway to the presidency for a Republican candidate that does not include winning the state of Texas.

Thus, the greatest thing we red/purple state Texans, including our many principled / not bigoted Republican friends, can do to change the national conversation and the national politics and to drive a stake through the heart of Trumpism is to elect Beto.

It won’t prevent mini Trumps from running in House elections but it will end the viability of Trumpism as a national ideology.

And before you accuse me: I don’t think someone who may vote Cruz is necessarily unprincipled or bigoted. Rather a defeat of Cruz will save the Republican party by the signaling power it holds for elected Republicans all over the country for every single ‘20 / ‘24 candidate
