AVGEEK ALERT! I finally managed to hike with @Reweth out to the 1945 Canso crash site near Tofino (thread)
the trail goes through shore pine bog habitat. i do not know what these blue flowers are, but they're sure lovely
peekaboo! @Reweth
There used to be a laminated news clipping attached to a bulkhead, telling the story of this amazing emergency landing in which all crew survived to walk out . That's gone now, but a thoughtful person wrote all the plane's stats & crew names on the bulkhead:
"Any landing you walk away from is a good landing." AMEN.
This plane not only had 12 crew aboard, it was fully loaded with fuel and antisubmarine ordnance. There's a bomb crater *just* before you reach the wreckage.

And a story from one of the survivors, age 90, in 2014. https://globalnews.ca/news/1657347/canso-11007-the-last-flight/
