How many times has God assured us of something, yet, as soon as things get a bit shaky, we begin to fret? Trust me we aren’t alone. I’m Rocc. This is another thread and it’s shorter than usual SO strap in and let’s get started!
This story takes place in the gospel of Luke, after Jesus is done teaching a series of parables (which i highly recommend you go and read. Luke 8. Really great teachings!)
One day, Jesus is like ā€œaye yal let’s get in this boat and go to the other sideā€ the disciples are like ā€œaight, bet!ā€
As they sailed, Jesus went to sleep. Just picture this. The Lord of all creation. The Son of Man. Savior of the World. Knocked out on a ship
As He was sleep, a windstorm came down on the lake, causing their ship to start taking in water. And they LOST IT!! ā€œMASTER! AYE MASTER WE IS FINNA DIE DON’T YOU CARE?!ā€
Jesus wakes up, rebukes the storm and causes a calm to come. And He asks them a question that I know for a fact He’s had to ask me. And I’m sure He’s had to ask you too. ā€œWhere is your faithā€
Me and the disciples were both like
They were SHOOK! ā€œMan what manner of man is this that the winds and waves listen to His command?!ā€
Here is why this passage is so important:
1. It shows that sometimes Jesus will step back during where we’re being tested. Here it was shown through Jesus going to sleep but in our lives, sometimes the answer won’t come right away. Why? I’m glad you asked
2. The trials of life are used to grow our faith. Would it have made sense for Jesus to calm the storm before it occurred? Would it make sense for Him to give you what you’ve prayed for as soon as you’ve asked it? In both of these scenarios, how much faith is being produced?
3. The disciples, just like us, missed the whole key at the beginning. Jesus literally told them ā€œLet US go over to the other sideā€. Meaning He’s gonna be on the boat. Meaning that if He said yal are gonna make it, why fret over a wind storm?!
3A. You got a whole Jesus on board and you fretting over a windstorm. If He said yal are gone make it then that’s exactly what He meant. Sometimes we panic as if Jesus isn’t on our ships...well let me ask this: is Jesus the captain of your ship or is it still you?
Jesus even asked them where their faith was, because, again, He told them that they were gonna make it to the other side. So if He’s not a man that He should lie, why are you panicking as if He’s ever gone back on His word before?
Faith and fear cannot coexist. One will give way to the other. And we must be willing to trust Him at His word and believe that, regardless of what the outside circumstances look like, He’s still God. He’s still in control and He still calms even the mightiest of storms.
And I’m not saying that things won’t scare us, but that’s different that having fear. You can still hold onto your faith and be scared. When you are in fear your faith is snatched away.
I’ll say this and then I’m in my seat. If He brought you through the last storm you thought was going to take you out, what makes you think He won’t do it again? Whatever it is that He’s promised you He’d do, believe that He will. And continue to be faithful and steadfast!
That’s all for this one guys, I love yal and I’m praying for each of you. Yal be blessed!
