thread will contain the influence & impact of the 2nd gen, which made kpop known/popular worldwide & how it's not a work of 1 artist/group but the work of a generation
this thread will NOT include achievements in korea
Rain, aka Jung Ji-hoon active since 1998, was the first K-pop star that broke onto the Western scene.
He starred in Ninja Assassin (2009) and Speed Racer (2008), both Hollywood productions.

He was voted one of the “100 People Who Shape Our World” by TIME magazine in 2007.
2008: Super junior, active since 2005, became the first kpop group to win an award outside Korea.
The 1st group who had tours in South American countries & the 1st group who held 100 tours around the globe.
The 1st group who was invited at Oxford university for a lecture.
2008 TVXQ, active since 2005, made it in the Guinness World Records for having the world's largest official fan club.
2009 TVXQ made it in the Guinness World Records for being the Most Photographed Celebrities in the World.
2009, Wonder Girls, active from 2007-2017 became the 1st Korean artist/group to be on the billboard’s chart with their hit “Nobody”.
2010, became the 1st Korean girl group to have a concert in the US.
Kanye West appeared on JYJ's "Ayyy Girl" in 2010
Snoop Dogg performed on the title track of Girls' Generation's 2011 album, The Boys.
the Black Eyed Peas' http://will.i.am  is said to have produced the U.S. debut album by 2NE1 and he also worked on PSY's album.
2011 Girls' Generation, active since 2007, performed to a sold-out audience at New York's hallowed Madison Square Garden.
According to Billboard's statistics, Girls' Generation is the top touring K-pop girl group–they held 65 shows between 2013 and 2016.

2008, Rain became the first Artist guests on U.S. late-night talk show
2009, BOA had the 1st album on Billboard 200 chart
Wonder Girls became the 1st opener for U.S. concert tour (Jonas Brothers)
2012, Girls Generation became the 1st artists to perform on U.S. morning talk show
i guess i'll just stop my thread here.
please know that in no way or form am i trying to discredit anyone's achievements. there's no doubt that all the new groups or groups from 5-6 years have had a huge impact on the world but they didn't START the impact.
in the high of the new generation groups, i don't want people to forget about the groups/idols who made a HUGE impact in the world without a huge social media presence (because social media was next to nothing at that time.)
