I could go on about how those that complain could just do what I do but that wouldn't give a clear picture.
I didn't talk about the 20 minute trek across Houston that I make to go buy fresh foods because the grocery stores choose to sell bad produce in my neighborhoods and while the mom & pop stores try, they don't have the infrastructure to keep fresh food well
I didn't talk about the extra time that I have to take to go get food (especially during rush hour). An hour long trip to & from the store on a Saturday could easily turn into 3 after I get off of work.
Most ppl in the neighborhood that I live in don't have that luxury. So we could lament about how $5 at #McDonalds = $5 worth of chicken that could feed one person for a week, but truth is, there are FAR more variables that come into play.
It isn't just about eliminating food deserts and setting a grocery store on a corner in the neighborhood. It's about ensuring that the people in those neighborhoods have affordable, EDIBLE food.
