Do you guys know your sickle cell genotype?

It looks like majority of the voters so far do not know their genotype... This is very important to know, especially if you are African-American.

Sickle Cell Disease is mostly common among people whose ancestors are from Africa, The Mediterranean, India, some countries in South America, Central America and parts of the Caribbean.

You and your partner can unknowingly pass the disease to your child. That’s why it is extremely important to know your genotype. This is for your future.

There are 3 major genotypes. AA (normal), AS (Sickle Cell Trait Carrier), and SS (Sickle Cell Disease Carrier/Sickler). This chart explains the possible genotypes for intending couples.

So PLEASE find out your genotype, as well as your significant other. Sickle Cell Disease is such a painful and killer disease. No child deserves to be brought into the world to suffer. You will also suffer watching your child in pain. Love wisely.
