my pov about Supernatural and representation, A THREAD⤵:

(📷 with pictures because I'm a black, bi and professional woman)
it's being discussed several times by now about supernatural and representation. we have two sides: the one who defends the show and the one who complains about it.
my problem is: yes, supernatural have representation but the side who stands for the show sometimes pisses me off.+
+ when people say "supernatural isn't about representation" they miss completely the point. A show doesn't need to BE about representation (like sense8 or dear white people 💖) to HAVE representation (like brooklyn 99 and, YES, supernatural).

+
+ I won't even talk about poc representation because we have lots of them, I will leave here these bamf bc they're my favourites:

Billy, Gordon, Agent Victor and the Banes Twins.
+ But we know that a part of the fandom is making a big noise about LGBT+ representation, but some are not really caring about the movement (wich makes me PISSED) but because their non canon ship will never be canon.

+
+ The coolest thing for me is that the LGBTQ+ characters on spn aren't stereotyped. They're hunters, cops, moms and GOD HIMSELF. Their sexuality is there, being said loud and proud but that doesn't define them or their story. It's just who they are.

(📷 Chuck, our canon bi God)+
+ Examples of great LGBT+ characters on supernatural:

🌈 Max Banes: gay, witch and hunter.

🌈 Naoki Himura: married with a woman, her wife is traveling when a monster attacks their daughter.

🌈 Demian and Barnes: gays, cosplayers.

🌈 Jesse and Ceaser: gays, #HunterHusbands.
+
+ and let's talk about the LGBTQ+ characters that most people forget:

🌈 Lily (2.21): has powers and accidentally killed her girlfriend with them.

🌈 Alan (3.13): member of the Ghostbusters and in love with Ed. Died, came back and saved Sam and Dean as a ghost.
+ and I won't even talk about all the angels, archangels and their genders.

📷: Hannah and Raphael in their male and female vessels.
+ and we OBVIOUSLY can't talk about LGBTQ+ characters on supernatural without talking about the most iconic: Charlie Bradburry. +
+ My point is: Supernatural really isn't a show about political discussion of minorities but it doesn't NEED to be to have representation. They come and go all the time. +
+ Please don't say "supernatural isn't about representation" as a defense, we need representation everywhere, so show people that they're right there in the show. And if you use "representation" as a excuse to be angry because of your non canon ship, well you're a piece of shit.
That's it, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

🌼 I would like to add a little late to this thread that I'm not now not even saying that the representation is enough (because for me it'll never be) and I'm NOT defending spn writers (dabb can't write a female character for shit). but I'm trying to make a point on showing +
+ that those characters are there and some shippers are intentionally erasing the few of them to make their point valid and using serious activism to make people buy their fiction narrative and that's shit.
