#Myth : India has developed because of #English

#Reality : Only 4 percent of the people in the world know English. The Japanese, Germans, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian all speak their native languages and are developed, inspite of not having English as their link language.
The whole of Europe, except England, does not speak #English. The people in the whole of South East Asia speak their native languages, like Bahasa in Indonesia, Malaya in Malaysia, Thai in Thailand, Filipino in Philippines, Burmese in Burma etc.
It is only some of the commonwealth countries like India, that have taken to #English as a colonial hangover, for we have not been able to shed our colonial mentality as far as language is concerned.
Sankrant Sanu, an Indian entrepreneur and writer has given statistics as to how the countries in which #English has been imposed, because of colonial hangover, have not developed uniformly across the country. Development and prosperity are in isolated pockets.
Whereas, countries which adopted their own mother tongue as working language, have all developed in sciences, in medicine, in economy and are prosperous uniformly across their nation.
#English
It is a gross misnomer to say that “for sciences to develop, English is a must”. For, sciences have developed in Germany, France, China, Russia and Japan with hardly any #English.
#English, a foreign language was adopted as the link language, post independence.

At the time of independence, less than 1% of the population spoke English.
Even after 65 years of independence and imposed #English education, only 4 % of India speaks English.

English was a foreign language to us at the time of independence and continues to be so, even now. It is a matter of fact.
