Why Red is one of the best albums literally ever, a thread
Red was first announced during a live chat viewed by over 72,000 people, where Taylor explained the meaning of the album while announcing the first single and release date. An iconic announcement
Red’s first single, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, became Taylor’s VERY FIRST song to reach number one on the billboard hot 100 ever
We’ll start with analytical data here. Red was Taylor’s second album to sell over a million pure sales in the first week (1.21 mill) and to be nominated for album of the year at the grammys, the album also hit number one on the billboard 200
At the time of its release Red was the third biggest debut for a female artist in US history and became the fastest-selling album in over a decade in the United States ❗️❗️
In terms of music now! Red was genre bending, this album had songs that could fit as country, pop, rock, and folk. An album that includes everything from banjo, electronic beats, and acoustic guitar. Paved the way for the mix of country and pop music
Red is truly the perfect mix between ballads that’ll make you cry and fun songs to dance to. She always keeps you on your toes, no boring fill ins
THE BEST ALBUM PHOTOSHOOT
Viral history: 22 became an iconic birthday song, nobody turns 22 anymore without “I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22,” and I Knew You Were Trouble gave the world the original screaming goat name
All Too Well became a true icon within the Swift fandom, the song was recently ranked as the #1 TS song ever & the #29 best song of the CENTURY by Rolling Stone. & of course “you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest”
Red was a killer transitional album, including working with old friends like liz rose and nathan chapman, and new friends like max martin and shellback and dan wilson. Throughout the album you get a mix of self written and cowritten songs, showcasing Taylor’s true talents
Red included features!!! Her first collab and dawn of a friendship with Ed Sheeran for Everything Has Changed, and a collab with Gary Lightbody for the heartbreaking masterpiece The Last Time
The Red album also gave us the Red Tour which was, honestly legendary. This tour also became the highest-grossing tour of all time by a country artist, grossing over $150 million
What also makes the album beautiful is that it’s a true concept album. The whole theme of red meaning danger, stop, emergency but also meaning love, passion, jealousy, and anger is painted perfectly by each track. Though it’s not ‘sonically cohesive,’ Red is one direct theme.
The deluxe tracks !!!! The Moment I Knew is one of the most heartbreaking songs Taylor has ever written !!! Come Back Be Here is an underrated masterpiece that conveys missing someone so well as only Taylor could do !!!
Might I also add Red begins with the best album opener of all time State of Grace with it’s magical lyrics, unique structure, & rock style drum beats, and after a rollercoaster of emotions ends with Begin Again, ending her most vulnerable album by starting over with love
In general the lyricism on Red is unrivaled by a majority of Taylor’s other albums. I could go on and on about the metaphors and world play, but State of Grace, Red, Treacherous, All Too Well, The Lucky One, and Sad Beautiful Tragic include some of her best writing to date
