My little cousin’s teacher hit her eye with the cane in the process of flogging another pupil, told her not to tell her father & then proceeded to give her the cane to flog the intended recipient of the flogging.

Please is this not sadistic behaviour?

This same teacher has been warned severally about flogging my cousin. She threatens my cousin with a beating if the girl reports to her dad. And when a higher authority in the school is told about all this, his response is ‘she knows how to handle children cos she went to UNILAG’

I don’t know why it has become normal to us in Nigeria for school teachers to be allowed to flog their students. Many times they don’t even tell the students why they’re flogging them. This is physical and emotional abuse & they will now flog with all their frustration and anger.

Many of these teachers don’t care about their jobs or their students. They don’t care about the children’s psychology cos these things register in the children’s minds.

They have no emotional intelligence and with this kind of school experience by most Nigerians, no wonder people lack empathy.

Teachers especially primary school teachers shouldn’t be let to flog their pupils; many don’t know when to stop or when it’s unnecessary. Many don’t care cos the kids aren’t theirs.

This is abusive behaviour & it stays in the psyche of the child except by God’s intervention.
