the only reason rumlow was in captain america: civil war, was to confirm that steve had realized he was in love with bucky at the age of 16: a thread
marvel could've used literally any other person in place of rumlow to cause a catastrophe that would initiate the talk about the accords. rumlow's goal was to distract steve and why not hit him where it hurts most, which is bucky
rumlow is very aware of this bc he saw when bucky was able to remember steve. he knew that he could use that against him. that was rumlow's soul purpose bc no one else would've even thought in mentioning bucky
rumlow also referred to him as "your bucky". using "your ___" as a way to refer to someone's friend isn't heavily used but it is common when referring to someone's romantic partner.
BITCH,,,, AND THEN STEVE WENT ON TO SAY THAT HEARING BUCKY'S NAME TOOK HIM BACK TO BEING 16 YEARS OLD IN BROOKLYN. MY STEVEBUCKY HEART COULDN'T TAKE IT
bucky and steve are childhood friends which means they met way before they were in their teens, so why would steve specifically remember the age 16????
that's bc steve realized he was in love with bucky when he was 16, which is why that age stood out to him bc realizing for the first time that you're in love with someone is supposed to be super memorable
bucky's also one year older than steve so that would've made him 17 at the time that steve had realized he had fallen in love with him. it just so happens that one of bucky's trigger words is 17
someone once said that it takes 11 words for bucky to become the winter soldier but only one to make steve feel like a 16-year-old in brooklyn and i honestly haven't stopped thinking about it
stevebucky isn't even canon and this all makes perfect sense, but marvel's homophobic ass won't and will never make it happen. i'm 100% positive that if bucky were a girl they would've made it canon ages ago
