Today is the #ShaheediDiwas of #GuruArjunDev Ji, the 5th Guru of the Sikhs, who was martyred after enduring much torture only to give the Sikhs & the world an important lesson. A short thread also explaining why #ChabeelDay is celebrated today 1/n
In 1606, #GuruArjanDev Ji refused to change religion as ordered by a tyrant emperor in a bid to curtail the Guru’s growing influence. When the Guru refused, he was tortured by being made to sit on a red hot plate whilst hot sand was poured over him #ShaheediDiwas #ChabeelDay 2/n
Now, cold drinks are served all over the world on #ChabeelDay in memory of #GuruArjanDev Ji’s sacrifice and suffering. Chabeel Day is not just to commemorate their 5th Guru but also to celebrate “Chardi Kala” (eternal optimism) #ShaheediDiwas 3/n
Instead of mourning our Guru’s shahadat and sacrifice, Sikhs are taught to accept Gods will as sweet (Tera Bhana Meetha Lage) and Sikhs turned this occasion from negative to positive - by turning the attack against them into something more meaningful & positive #ShaheediDiwas 4/n
#chabeelDay is an occasion to serve humanity and to cool everyone else. Chabeel is cold sweet water which is served to everyone irrespective of any barrier of caste, religion etc. it’s also called kacchi lassi 5/n
True Chardi Kala, which is a tenet & strong principle of Sikhism is demonstrated by the Sikhs who responded to the martyrdom of #GuruArjanDev Ji with great spirit to serve humanity- POSITIVITY DURING TIMES OF ADVERSITY, POSITIVITY ALWAYS #ChabeelDay 6/n
A meaningful lesson for all from #GuruArjanDev Ji- Accepting Gods will

Tera Keeaa Meetthaa Laagai
Har Naam Padaarath Naanak Maangai

Your actions are so sweet to me
Nanak begs for the treasure of your divine name ( #Waheguru)

#chabeelDay 7/n
So on #ChabeelDay if you had the chabeel/saw the stalls lining the street, remember to be kind to someone today, be positive and spread positivity. Be in #ChardiKala (eternally optimistic state) & serve others. Dhan Dhan Shri #GuruArjanDev Ji’s blessings be with us 7/7
