So, rainy day story before I load the dishwasher: saw an “on this date” item in 2016 marking the 33rd anniversary of Innervisions. I loved the inside cover art of that album since I could walk. I scoured the interwebs, saw the name of the artist Efram Wolff, and took a shot...1/4
2) He quickly responded that, yes, it was he who designed the album and yes, I could buy a print. I asked him for some recollections on it, and he sent me this to start...
3) He added he never met Stevie Wonder and in today’s world, no record company would ever take a flyer on such an unknown, that album art in those days was a wonderful creative opportunity in a business that would soon be close novices off to such chances, but it was a thrill.
4) We periodically keep in touch. He heard me on @NPR a few weeks ago and sent a nice note. The print is on my wall, a nice reminder of Dorchester, Mattapan, and being introduced to a sound that not only has stayed with me my whole life, but now my son loves Stevie, too.
