What happened when the schools closed after X-mas? This is the data from @ONS covid19 survey. This is from the winter 2021 where UK is in lockdown and the schools and higher education is by remote learning (for most students)

These graphs says more than 1000 words.... School closures is a pretty effective tool to reduce #COVID19 transmission.
Next challenge is to replace school closure with other tools to keep the numbers down

Should school kids and students wear face masks in class rooms? Why not? Would you put 30 adults close together in a room without face masks?

We can implement 
and better ventilation to reduce transmission of #COVID19 in schools, but is it enough?I doubt it To keep the numbers down - we need regular testing of both students and teachers
