2 things most DB coaches will harp in this area
1. Hold your ground @ the GL. That’s where receivers want to break off their route
2. Have good eyes.

DJ Daniel does a great job in these reps working both
Last clip. Deebo Samuel vs DB w/bad eyes on the whip

There’s only so much room on the goal line. DBs dictate the route depth. Whether it’s an out, slant, fade, stop, the receiver wants to break that route off right at the goal line. Hold ground at the 1-GL. Once you have him controlled then look!
Look too soon and you might guess right. But if you are wrong it’ll look bad. Feet will stop. Hips will lock. Eyes feet work together. Sound reps by Georgia CB DJ Daniel. Also, Deebo Samuel looked really light on his feet. What was his senior bowl weight? Gotta get back to that
Oh.. and just in case it needs to be said.. that DB in the last clip happened to be wearing 14 lol but that was a few years ago. That is NOT DJ Daniel.
Man.. bad eyes get so many DBs beat. It’s really one of the most important traits and it might not get the attention it deserves. We look at hips, feet, speed, COD, but really your eyes works hand n hand with a lot of those things. They can fasho fucc you.
