Hi, so id like to explain an interpretation for the choices behind the words “brother” used in this speech from shu to mika.
FYI, weather you ship these two or not does not matter to me. I just want to make this known due to the misconceptions I've seen floating around the internet regarding this particular quote.
In japanese, the words brother and sister are often used very loosely. In many shows and games the word “brother” is used as a term of both respectfulness and affection from one person to another.
This word implies a type of responsibility, where the two people who call eachother brother and sister can depend and count on eachother for stability as siblings would.
In this particular instance, shu is using the word brother as in a stable older male figure. A figure of speech. He is stating to mika that he can look up to him as a brother would. Like found family.
The english language often uses words similarly too. Hell, so many times ive referred to somebody as bro or sis. Does that mean i actually see them as family and therefor not a potential partner? No. Im just stating that they're very close to me.
Anyways overall, you can feel how you want about them!! If you see them in a more familial way that's fine!! But remember that this quote is not an excuse to stop shipping mikashu.
If I made any mistakes in my argument please let me know!! Im always open to constructive criticism!!
