Let's figure out how to understand analytics on our twitter account so see how useful it can be.

First, let's see how our tweets are doing
Go to https://analytics.twitter.com
You should see immediately how much your account has changed over the last month
This is easy to check quickly, but let's dig deeper

Below this you should see more data on the previous months.
The right column is most important here
You can compare the last two or more months to see changes
Here's mine (till Jan 20th)
More impressions and followers for less tweets
That's an improvement! What changed?

Click on "tweets" at the top to get more detail
This shows us data for each tweet individually
We can see at the top how our tweets are doing on a 28-day basis
Mine shows a trend around Jan 10th that something caused a consistent increase in engagement
Important to remember

Important to remember
This trend also results in more likes, retweets and impressions, but not in more link clicks and engagement rate (%), except for on one specific day.
For me this means
• All tweets are being seen by more people
• A few tweets led to most engagement and link clicks

If we click "Top Tweets" we can see that 2 of my most engaged tweets were on the 15th and 16th - which is expected
There's also 1 tweet on the 9th with lots of views, but no significant change in engagement
There's also 1 tweet on the 9th with lots of views, but no significant change in engagement
What does this teach us?
In this case, jokes lead to lots of views but no meaningful interaction.
That one tweet got lots of views but led to no benefit
Learning from this, I probably would avoid tweets like that in the future

The second most popular tweet teaches us a lot too
Compared to the one below it, it got a lot higher engagement.
Why is that?
• It contains a misconception (I was wrong)
• It contains a change
• It contains monetary proof
One of these is likely the reason

This is how we can use analytics to understand trends
So what are the next steps?
Prove the theories
I would speculate that monetary proof is the reason for higher engagement. If more tweets containing that also do well, that shows that's what people want to hear
