I spent the better part of today screaming about this. But I need to say that the implications of this methodologically unsound 'research' are dangerous & disheartening for young people who literally JUST want to learn. Not just people working within the academy. https://twitter.com/daniela_witten/status/1329561193967620097
I'm just an undergraduate student, but I've had the opportunity to be mentored (in the true sense of the term, not using some weird psychometrically flawed standard) by some amazing boss women, and it is the BEST!! Implying anything else is a huge disservice to students.
And even if their 'findings' were accurate (which they are not), shouldn't the conversation be about recognizing and removing barriers to women's success in academia? Instead of some bizarre idea that people should just seek male mentors & mentees to succeed.
For whatever it's worth though, I now understand why our profs repeatedly tell us that correlation doesn't imply causation. Apparently there's still a serious need to do that. Ok rant over, bye.
Also, huge shoutout to all the amazing women I know and learn from every day!
