Hey #Chicago, this week is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

To do our part, we want to shine a light on a few organizations that are doing great work to help those in need. #hhweek #sharethetable

A thread:
LaCasa Norte ( @LaCasaNorte) provides access to stable housing and delivers comprehensive services that act as a catalyst to transform lives and communities. Since COVID-19 first began, La Casa Norte has served more than 10,000 individuals.
The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless ( @ChiHomeless / CCH) organizes families, youth, and adults, advocating to better lives by access to shelter, housing, schools, and opportunity. They are actively working to prevent and end homelessness.
Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly ( @housingopp) helps low-income seniors maintain their independence by providing home repair, shopping transportation, affordable housing, and moving services. It aims to foster joy, independence, and connection for seniors.
Deborah’s Place ( @DebsPlaceChi) opens doors of opportunity for women who are homeless in Chicago. Supportive housing and services offer women their key to healing, achieving their goals and moving on from the experience of homelessness.
The Night Ministry ( @NightMinistry) is working to provide housing, health care and human connection to Chicagoans struggling with homelessness or poverty. They provide services to 4,600+ individuals of all ages, and their Youth Shelter Programs help support 450+ youth.
Sarah’s Circle ( @Sarahs_Circle) has over 800 direct beneficiaries each year and provides a full continuum of services for women, including housing, life necessities, and supportive services, to help them permanently end their homelessness.
Ignite ( @ignite_promise) stands with youth on their journey to a home and a future with promise. For the past three years, about 70% of youth in their stable housing program have obtained and maintained stable housing for six months after program exit.
Facing Forward ( @ff_chicago) is actively working to end homelessness for families and individuals by offering hope, help and housing. Facing Forward provides permanent housing, education, advocacy, and social services.
Cornerstone Community Outreach ( @CCOLife / CCO), is an Illinois not-for-profit organization that was founded back in 1989 to raise the quality of life for low-income residents. They offer a number of homelessness services including shelter for families, individuals and seniors.
All Chicago ( @AllChicago_MHH) is working to end homelessness by providing emergency financial assistance, community partnerships, data analytics, and trainings & research to help build capacity to address homelessness more effectively.
via @AllChicago_MHH, "On any given night, more than 5,000 Chicagoans don’t have a place to call home. Tens of thousands more are just one unexpected setback away from joining them." Their mission is to provide solutions that ensure and sustain the stability of home.
Heartland Alliance ( @heartlandhelps) is one of the world’s leading anti-poverty organizations — with its roots right here in Chicago — and works in communities in the U.S. and abroad to serve those who are homeless, living in poverty, or seeking safety.
We recommend following The Illinois Housing Development Authority ( @ILHousing). IHDA finances the creation and preservation of affordable housing in Illinois and they actively work with local governments and non-profit orgs to combat the ongoing effects of the housing crisis.
Lastly, give Chicago Better ( @chicagobetter) a follow, as they frequently share the best of what different orgs across Chicago & the suburbs are doing to help make our communities better, including orgs who are actively working to combat homelessness.
We’re also looking to connect with other local organizations that are actively working to combat hunger and homelessness. If you know of any orgs working tirelessly to help the homeless population, please be sure to link them below!
. @BlockClubCHI - if you know of any orgs, please feel free to tag them!
