I answered 250+queries today. Lots of reasons I pass: already rep similar, hook not strong enough, concept already flooding market, writing not there yet (most often reason-so keep writing), opening not strong, objectionable content(!!), don& #39;t rep it, not my cup o& #39;tea but awesome

word count way outside publisher expectations, rookie writing mistakes in opening sample indicating issues probably extend deep into pages (need more practice) even if cool hook, no context in opening pages so can& #39;t get settled, world building confusing in SFF, purple prose

FYI, important to note that I pass on authors who are previously published too, because they don& #39;t fit what I envision for my list. My list has a flavor profile. A little scattered in genres and age groups, but there& #39;s some unifying themes too.
