Game design taxonomy question: what do you call the genre of game or type of game subsystem where you build up friendship/romance points with characters by talking to them, spending time with them, and/or giving them presents?
e.g. Hades, Fire Emblem

                    e.g. Hades, Fire Emblem

“Romance” or “dating” don’t feel right, these systems often represent platonic friendship.
“Visual novel” is uselessly broad, and lacks a focus on tend-and-befriend.
I get the historical origin of the mechanics are 100% dating VNs, but have we come up with more specific terms?

(I assume the answer is “there is no universal term”. I’m thinking about — if I recall history correctly — how e.g. “choice-based narrative” as a term of popular art significantly lagged behind Twine / F2P phone stories / etc becoming established and recognized forms)
