It’s like asking why so many YA novels have a dead parent lol it’s an obvious choice to remove the whole issue of like, parents wondering why their kid keeps running off with random strangers they met recently

Anyways this must be why every YA novel review section is full people being like I hated that the teens acted so immature and didn’t think before acting and kept having petty conflicts
