While I’m ecstatic about starting this new chapter in my career, it does not come without sadness about leaving @newpaltz. NP has been a fabulous place to design innovative new courses, work with spectacular students, and collaborate with other interdisciplinary researchers (2/7)
I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunities being on the faculty there has afforded me. It's worth noting a major reason why I’m leaving: @newpaltz and @SUNY are institutions whose potential remains unfulfilled because of New York State’s political leadership. (3/7)
Decisions in Albany make it nearly impossible to have a functional university. Austerity meant higher class sizes, more advisees, fewer full-time colleagues, additional service commitments, and greater reliance on exploited adjunct labor. (4/7)
Working at @newpaltz means creating miracles every day, before I could even think about research or any trace of work/life balance. The fact that @newpaltz remains a competitive 4-year regional college is solely due to its faculty and staff. (5/7)
If the university system were adequately funded and depoliticized, it could compete with New York’s elite colleges. I truly hope @NYGovCuomo and other state leaders (e.g., @SenSchumer @SenGillibrand @JenMetzgerNY ) will fight to preserve and extend funding for... (6/7)
