#yyccc's last meeting before they break for all of August is on. We're expecting this meeting to possibly last three days, so I'll be here until probably Wednesday.
There's a "personnel item" #yyccc will be discussing at some point, likely tomorrow. Coun. Diane Colley-Urquhart said it's "really important" for the public to see and understand it. So we'll see what that's about.
A city presentation is going over "myths" about this development. They say it will help preserve the CIBC building and will improve walkability with its at-grade plans. #yyccc
City also says the Inglewood Lawn Bowling Club will not have to stop operating due to this development. #yyccc
Member of city admin says that only 21% of 26,000+ signatures on a petition opposing this development were from Calgary. #yyccc
The applicant for this project, RNDSQR, is presenting now. Should be a 20-minute process. #yyccc
RNDSQR founder says there has been a ton of public investment in Inglewood, and just like amenities must accompany density, the amenities that have been invested in should be accompanied by more density. #yyccc
David White from CivicWorks says the discussion about this development should be about density, not height. (This 12-story development requires a land-use change as current limits are roughly 6 storeys.) #yyccc
Details of investment RNDSQR/CivicWorks say they will make in the area surrounding the proposed development.
#yyccc
Coun. Peter Demong asks why this development that includes two floors of office space should be approved when there is already a ton of vacant office space. RNDSQR says there are tech companies interested in the space. #yyccc
Coun. Evan Woolley says he's surprised to see data showing Inglewood falling short of density targets. He wonders if this project will get the neighbourhood to the minimum target. #yyccc
Nenshi: "Why's it gotta be so tall?" He says density bonusing, heritage preservation makes sense, but he doesn't understand why the building needs to go as high as planned. #yyccc
RNDSQR says they want to do "something iconic, that's a gift to the neighbourhood" and there's a balance they have to strike as they make an investment and also make sure the heritage building next to the new development is preserved. #yyccc
Nenshi says 9th Ave is working really well as a main street, and he asks how the developers know that this building won't wreck a street that has finally gotten to a good place, where businesses are thriving. #yyccc
White, from CivicWorks, says he's not worried about a mid-rise building ruining an "eclectic" community like Inglewood. He says it's also a vehicle for legally protecting heritage buildings. #yyccc
Nenshi asks whether the building will actually look the way it's being proposed — he doesn't understand how the balconies will work if there are criss-crossing beams like this:
Coun. Gian-Carlo Carra speaking now — Inglewood is in his ward. He says he "hasn't been sleeping well" recently because this is a really momentous decision for the community. He thinks this is a decision primarily about heritage. #yyccc
RNDSQR says if development in Inglewood stays at current six-storey limit, some of the heritage assets in the area could be under threat. #yyccc
