I am more positive on DAFs than @Al_Cantor is, as he and I have discussed. But I agree with much of what he says here, including that @FidelityChrtbl requiring only a $50 gift every two years from a DAF is insufficient at best. https://www.philanthropy.com/article/Commercial-DAFs-Keep-Touting/249211?cid=cpfd_home#comments-anchor
I have said that directly to the folks there. And the ones I work closely with -- @FidelityChrtbl is a grant supporter of @CEPData through its trustees initiative fund -- are people of integrity motivated to do good.
So I'm more hopeful than Al that @FidelityChrtbl will change--& do more 2 mandate and also 2 encourage more giving out of DAFs. As I point out in this post, which coincidentally went up about same time as Al's @Philanthropy piece, the time is now 4 DAFs. https://cep.org/the-continued-need-for-vastly-stepped-up-giving-and-the-role-of-dafs/
But on this Al and I agree totally: comparisons of giving levels this year versus last are essentially irrelevant. We should look at giving relative to need and relative to assets. Now is not the time for self-congratulation.
