Swing Bowling For Dummies
Swing bowling is the most exciting
but also the most misunderstood concept in
. I'm not going to delve in to the physics
& aerodynamics of it, but let's see
how we can differentiate its types & call them easily.PS : CLOUDS
DOESN'T AID SWING
We can differentiate swing bowling in to 3 types :
Conventional Swing
Reverse Swing
Contrast Swing
Part 1: Conventional Swing
If the ball swings in the same direction
that the seam is pointing
, then it is called conventional swing.

Part 1: Conventional Swing
If the ball swings in the same direction
that the seam is pointing
, then it is called conventional swing.
What that means is if the seam is pointed
towards 1st slip & if the ball swings in that direction, it is called conventional outswinger
similarly if the seam is pointed
towards fine leg and if the ball swings in that direction, it is called conventional inswinger

Conventional swing mostly occurs with the new ball
& is the easiest one to identify
. Below is an example of a conventional outswinger bowled by J Anderson
. Look at the seam pointing
towards 1st slip and the ball swinging away from the batsman.

towards fine leg and the ball swinging into from the batsman. In the coming days, we can look at the other two types - reverse & contrast swing.
