The kids went sleep early so hubby and I watched #TheOldGuard last night on @NetflixSA and here are my thoughts. 😬
#TheOldGuard is @NetflixSA's first big action movie with a female lead. It's up there with these guys in terms of budget and location.
Plot in a nutshell: A group of Immortals who have dedicated their lives to fighting terror and crime along with a new recruit, battle a new threat to their freedom and survival.
Let's get into production.

It's based on the comic book series written by Greg Lucka, who also wrote Wonder Woman: Rebirth for DC.
But probably the most exciting thing for me in terms of production is the director, Gina Prince-Bythewood of Love and Basketball. GET INTO IT.
If you enjoyed these types of features in a film, you'll be into this movie.

- Vampires and mythology
- Headshots and close contact fight scenes (Gilson was impressed)
- Strong female leads
- Movie series

Character time!
Charlize Theron as Andromache of Scythia aka Andy

- Age unknown
- Sis is EXHAUSTED ok
- Brooding and secretive
- Tragic backstory, can't wait to learn more
Kiki Lane as Nile Freeman

- Dark skinned black woman with natural hair being a bad ass? Put it in my veins
- Most human character
- Heroic AF, you're welcome Andy
Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker

- From the Napoleonic wars
- A disappointment
Marwan Kenzari as Joe

- From the first crusades
- JAFFAR SAID GAY RIGHTS
- Luca Marinelli plays his lover Nicky, from the same era
Chiwetel Ejiofor as Copley

- When you do clownery
- Looking forward to seeing what's next for this character
Harry Melling as Merrick

- It's pretty obvious Dudley was gonna whyl out one day, but this is next level WHYLING
- Lex Luthor type villain
- h8 2 c it
Ngo Thanh Van as Quynh

Not to give too much away, this character is not a part of the actual movie. They tell a story about her that will haunt your dreams, and that's all I have to say about that.
So! If you've watched it too, what do you think? Personally, I feel like @NetflixSA is in their bag and the comic book genre is a hit. I can't wait for the sequel.
