For all to share and discover
, we will capture images of cells treated with >140,000 different compounds and gene perturbations. Researchers will use data to predict a compound’s activity and toxicity, match drugs to different diseases, identify a drug's mechanism, and more!
How Cell Painting works: Metrics extracted from cellular images capture information on how the cell was affected by each chemical compound or genetic perturbation, so each cell’s visual 'fingerprint' can be matched against the reference collection to identify pathways and drugs.
Already this kind of data has yielded 4 drugs entering clinical trials, from @RecursionPharma https://www.recursionpharma.com/pipeline
Here is hoping for many many more from the entire pharmaceutical community over the coming years!
