A disgraceful line of questioning here from John Nicholson MP (SNP) using his privilege on the @CommonsDCMS to frame sportswomen who object to male-born trans people competing in female sports as 'abusers'. /1

. @MrJohnNicolson asked @EniAlu "One of the justifications that some abusers use is that people in sport are using their birth gender to give themselves enormous advantage. Do you think that trans people are a problem in women's sport. Do they have an unfair advantage?" /2
In what other policy area is evidence-based discussion about the impact of that policy considered 'abuse' and 'deeply offensive'? /3
Framing one side as 'abusers' makes the task of finding solutions more difficult. We put forward our position in good faith backed up with scientific and legal analysis. To portray us as 'anti-trans abusers' is disingenuous @MrJohnNicolson /4
We have sex categories in sport for a reason. Male puberty confers an insurmountable advantage over females. Transwomen that have been through a male puberty will have this advantage over females. There's no going back. This mustn't be ignored or dismissed as 'anti-trans'. /5
Everyone has the right to play sport, but no one has the right to play in any category they choose

Whats important is that everyone has a category ‘that is fair and right for them’

The female sex category is not fair or right for someone who has benefited from a male puberty /7
Efforts to welcome trans people into sport are needed. But this should never be at the expense of another protected group (females). And never by ignoring the performance differences between groups.

I would love to speak with you @EniAlu - please follow back so we can DM
