Helping us understand language? Where has ML made linguistics rich where it was once poor?
Producing gadgets that make life more convenient? How would quality of life be affected by ML's disappearance?
Making progress toward autonomous, adaptive systems? What has 30 years of game-playing algorithms gotten us?
I'm currently writing up what I think is a genuine, but narrow, advance on the problem of catastrophic forgetting. But I'm increasingly unable to see the point.
